Locking CD-R's

What's the program called that makes it impossible to copy something from the CD to your harddisk, or copying it from the CD to another CD? I know there's a program because my friend used to have one, when you would try to copy it Windows would say there was a CRC error or something like that.

i think this can still be copied by a stand alone writer dont know the name of the software sorry
