Any Of You Actually Check The Artits In The Updates On Dubcnn?
« on: November 10, 2003, 06:38:07 PM »
I was wondering if any of you were actually checking any of the artists we do updates on. If you never had heard of them, and seen an Update on Dubcnn about them, do you check them?

I've done Lifestyle.  I called FYE today to find out that their cd is only in Southern California FYEs on consignment, but it's on amazon.com for $15...too expensive for a debut.

I haven't been checking out new artists lately but I will print this list:
Rifleman - haven't heard
Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf- already a fan
Lyrics Born -haven't heard
Visionaries- haven't heard
Monteloco- haven't heard
Scipio - already a fan
Lifestyle - haven't heard
2Mex- haven't heard
Jizzim-haven't heard
Grouch & Eligh- haven't heard
Project Blowed- gotta check out more
I'll check them all out in the next few days and get back at you SGV

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

You're diehard. I wouldn't go through that trouble for no album. LOL.

If you like Project Blowed, you'll like Rifleman, he's apart of the crew. Jizzim is a long time collaborater, so you'd probably like him. Grouch and Eligh, same. If you like Murs, G & E will strike you as similar, they're from the same group. 2Mex is from the Visionaries, so the styles are somewhat similar. Lyrics Born is similar to Blackalicious, so if you like that sound, you'll like Lyrics Born. Monteloco is working with Scipio. Lifestyle is Snoop's little brother's group.

Glad to see people are actually venturing out.

I read everything...but it's impossible for me to "check out" (buy music) from them 'cause I don't even hope of seeing one of those albums in stores here in Belgium (the term "underground" would be an understatement, lol). If you post a song from them, I always check that out, certainly!

I read dubcnn pretty much everyday but there is no way I will check out every no-name artist on there.  If I start seeing thier name come up more often, other sites write about them, they get good reviews and basically get a buzz, then I'll see what's crackin'.

That's what happened with artists like Little Brother and Immortal Technique for me.

I figure if they are really good, they'll get me attention.

it's on amazon.com for $15...too expensive for a debut.

As opposed to snoop doggs debut which is $13.99 Or Eazy-E's album which is 13.98? Suga free's debut album is 14.99...

Why is 15 bucks too much? Thats the price I usuauly pay for CD's unless I get them at best buy. then it's like 11 to 13...

there is no way I will check out every no-name artist on there.

Rifleman<----Only known to Underground heads, but it popular with them.
Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf <-----PBW is a popular Underground head.
Lyrics Born <-----Just got his spot on MTV's You Hear It First.
Visionaries<------Legendary, not close to a no name.
Monteloco<----Pretty unknown.
Scipio <-----Worked with Ras Kass, but still unknown.
Lifestyle<----Snoop's brother but still unknown.
2Mex<----Legend, but still unknown, yet always popular in the Underground.
Jizzim<---See 2Mex.
Grouch & Eligh<----Living Legends crew, very popular in the Underground.
Project Blowed<----See Visionaries.

etc.

I figure, just because you never heard of them, doesn't mean they're no name. Aside from Loco, Scipio and Lifestyle, all these guys on the list have been out since the early 90s. They've established their name pretty well.

I'm not saying, go out and buy the record just off of my word, but peep it. Go Sandboxautomatic.com or Ughh.com and peep snippets. Or DL some tracks. It wouldn't hurt.

I've heard of three of them and they are still generally no-namers, all of them.  Sure they have an underground following of let's say a couple of thousand but in the big picture of this rap game they are no-namers.
