Damn. Ya guys know, there's a game comin out on PC in a few months called "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." and in it you're a scientist that's in Chernobyl and has 2 fight for his life. The graphics are amazing from the creenshots.

damn, now that i looked over the site, it really hit me hard. It's a really scary idea of a whole region being completely abandoned. In a way similar to how the, i THINK Inca abandoned Machu Piccu even BEFORE the arival of the Spaniard. That region was completely abandoned for centuries

its about the worst catastrophe in nuclear history. The failure of the system was caused by the attempt of technicians to install a security system which caused it to explode. Everything the rivers, land, trees are poisoned by radiation and its said that radiation will stay in the Chernobyl (Ukraine) area for the next 48.000 years, but humans may begin repopulating the area in about 600 years - give or take three centuries. 600 years, thats ridiculous homie

No one knows how many people died but reports range from 300 to 300,000 and many unofficial sources put the toll over 400,000.

Look at chapter 25, the photos are of the town kindergarden. There is this teachers diary and a last note saying that their walk on Saturday has been canceled due to some unforeseen contingency.    Thats sick

Yeah, that shit is crazy.. could have happened to any superpower country.. and it's a wonder it haven't happened more times..

Quote
As a totalitarian government the Soviet Union forced many young soldiers to assist in the cleanup of the Chernobyl accident, apparently without sufficient protective clothing and insufficient explanation of the danger involved.

Over 650,000 liquidators helped in the cleanup of the Chernobyl disaster in the first year. Many of those who worked as liquidators became ill and according to some estimates about 8,000 to 10,000 have died from the radioactive dose they received at the Chornobyl Power Plant. This group apparently includes those who built the containment building over the destroyed reactor No. 4 which is called the SARCOPHAGUS.

That's Russians.. remember WWII.. ?

Should have moved this to ToT really, but that will only ruin the discussion..
