yeah so i moved the site to a new server.. i got fed up with the downtimes and lack of support..

this should I hope be a very good situation..  but only time will tell whether this suits us or not..

please bear with me.. i'm aware of all the messing around.. (fingers crossed)

also yes, the big 'raptalk' banner which was across the top of the forum is now gone since they no longer host us. the hosting is now back to coming out my own pocket.

when we first went live on this new host there was an initial slowness which has hopefully been fixed. (i changed an option to do with the way the forum connects to the database and it suddenly jumped into life and has been fine for an hour since).

jome just found a problem with posts that if they contained certain words it would show "forbidden" when posting or previewing. have just fixed that.


i'm about to see if the spellcheck works on this new server since it didnt on the last one (but did on the one befor if ya'll remember)

update..... it doesnt.. but i should be able to install out now i've got a server

ok i did something this morning that made it go slow.. (it was meant to speed it up. lol)...

i also locked the forum out, restarted the server (never been able to do that before!!) and after undoing the 'speedup' thing that didnt work I did a repair and then an optimise on the database... its running fine again right now.

if its slow again see if you can see if something sticks out.. like there are a lot of people online or if you can see people doing searches or something...


edit : one and a half hours since i made this post and everythings been running really well.

(have also turned off 'lookups' as thats meant to speed things up a lot..)


also.. there is a new version of the forum coming soon (ETA is a few weeks i believe) that along with lots of cool features will have 2 changes meant to help with large forums.. 1 speeds up searches and stops them slowing down the forum  and the other speeds up general usage.

last night apart from between 8pm/9pm UK time i was very impressed that when people weren't searching it didnt kill the forum with 110+ people on.. which bodes well for higher loads.

i've managed to find a little advice on speeding things up..  since i now for the frsrt time ever in the history of dubcc have full 100% control over the server i should be able to optimize this really well.

the new version of the forum software thats coming within the next month has changed the search feature to speed it up and handle these kind of issues.

i changed something earlier in the server configuration that should help speed things up (seems to do the trick so far) and have sought advice from the forum makers using the support i pay them for. it should make things even better.

my server costs $44.50 a month

well out of my paypal but yeah.. this last year was the only year in the 5 that dubcc has been running where i havent paid (the raptalk banner provided the hosting.. but as we know.. there were problems..)
