Question about Snoop's success
« on: June 08, 2006, 12:08:35 PM »
I saw the topic on the make up to break up album that never happened and I was wondering. To all the Snoop fans out there. Do you guys respect the fact that Snoop has been able to STILL create hit records without Dr. Dre or do you think his career has fell off without Dre. I am not getting into whether or not you think Fred Wreck, Pharrell, Battlecat or any of the other producers Snoop now works with are up to par or sound good with Snoop. Just from a success standpoint. I gotta respect what the man has done. He has only added to the superstar he already was and still is and true he has had some questionable singles, decision making, etc, but he is doing his thing.

He's still having a successfull career. He proved that he can still have a huge buzz without Dre but WE GOT THE POINT, go see him, it's better! He still makes some good songs without him but i'd rather see him with him then without him

I only asked because it seems with every release he has out people are still mad that Dre is not involved. It's like every release from him can't be dope without Dre on it in people's eyes (the new single, DPG-CIA, etc). I gave up on Dre/Snoop collabos a loooong time ago. if it happens. great.

I don't see why people expect him to work with Dre. It's not like Dre is begging to work with many artists. I got mad respect for Snoop. Who outside of Snoop as put it down for the West without Dre's help on the level that Snoop has? He doesn't need Dre right now (not that he wouldn't sound better with him). Unfortuantly when you have success in the West, people hate on you and label you a sellout.

I respect the fact he can still make hits.  I respect the fact he can change up his style.  I respect the fact he can adapt to what's popular in the mainstream.

Not to mention, he's one of the ONLY successful rappers from the West at the moment, unlike everyone affiliated with DPG.

Not only is Snoop still successful in the west, IMO he is the most recognizable face in the rap game today.  Snoop is still more relavent than everyone from his debut era, plus anyone else new thats coming out.  I like the fact that even tho he works with big name people like Diddy, Pharrel and Justin Timberlake, he still takes time to work with people like DPG, Rage, 213, RBX Daddy V, JT Bigga Figga and people like that ect.....Snoop is all over the place.  Hes definatly worked hard to get where he is at today.

He's way beyond that.  He's not just a rapper anymore… Snoop Doggs a house hold name..  a pop icon if you will... Let’s be honest, he doesn’t really get the credit that he deserves for the amazing job he’s done in "branding" himself.   His name generates money all by itself now.  Dre can provide him a beat, but he can’t provide that for him.  Kid’s love him... parents love him and to this day, I don’t know how he did it.  How or why did America get behind someone with such a negative image?  Crippin, smokin and pimpin have always been the message so it just made since that one day his bubble would burst and he'd be lumped in with all of the other "would be" rappers of the 90s.

Somehow he’s got the older generation and industry heads behind him.  He seems to be riding a wave of success and capitalizing off of every opportunity.  He's not going at it "against the grain" style like say 2Pac had to.  Pac had a crazy fan base but he never got the industry or parents behind him.  He had to take his message and shove it down their throats... and in return he was challenged by the system and anyone of importance throughout his entire career.   Snoop hasn’t really seen that type of resistance since leaving DR and NL.  He's such a brand now that he could sell “Snoop Dogg band aids” and people would buy it.

to this day, I don’t know how he did it.

This might sound stupid, but I think a lot of it was his name... It's one of the most instantly recognisable names in pop music full stop - how are you gonna forget it once you hear it? When he came out, if any sitcoms made a joke about hip-hop, it was something like older folks mispronouncing it as Snoopy Dogg Dogg or shit like that...

Plus he's released at least three singles that base the chorus around singing his name. Don't know... just my thoughts...
