Wenger: 'We'll not look to sign Juventus stars'

It is widely anticipated that the four scandal-hit Italian sides will lose some of their top talent in the next few months. However, according to Arsène Wenger, those players are unlikely to arrive at Arsenal.

Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina and Juventus all suffered stringent penalties on Friday after being found guilty of match-rigging. The last of those teams was hit hardest and, considering they had won Serie A in the past two seasons, have the most to lose.

The Arsenal manager admits he is looking to bolster his side but not from the Old Lady of Turin.

“It is disturbing the market because you have a flow of players coming out,” he said. “But don’t forget that the players of Juventus are very well paid and not many clubs in the world can not afford to pay these kinds of wages.

“We can not afford to do it. That is why we are not very much disturbed by the Juventus case. It is very unlikely because the wages are too high for us.”

Loan deals have been mooted but, Wenger argues they are unlikely to be widespread.

“Juventus got punished to [go down to] Serie B plus 30 points,” he said, “They have a team who are above 30 so I can not see why they would give players out on loan. Even if they make it back in two years [those players] could be finished.”
