Looks like Obie Trice laid Shady Records first major brick
« on: September 08, 2006, 06:36:51 AM »
I thought the last album was pretty wack actually.  Eminem has invested alot into Obie Trice, and it's not worth it.  He's given him some of the best beats, he even hooked him up with that Dre beat last album from "Shit Hits the Fan" along with a Dre verse.

The only thing I ever liked that Obie did was that origional 4 track EP that was floating around when he first got signed to Shady.  It had the song "Dope Jobs Homeless", and "Well Known Asshole" on it, he should of kept that style, he was grimy then, more down to Earth and easier to relate to.  Less is more.  Now he's doing way too much, following trends and just trying to do whatever is hot at the moment.

Cheers was dope AND 2ROM is wack coz of the Em beats... and I don't think there are lots of mainstream rappers more down to earth than Obie

I wouldn't consider it "wack", that would imply that it's a terrible album altogether. I think 2ROM is just Weak. Obie brought the lyrics but they screwed him with the beats...

With his new single hitting the radio now 'Jamacan Girl' he has a good chance of selling. He hasn't hit a big week yet because most people are unaware the album is out. At first i didn't like the album, but i'm feelin it now no doubt,

chill

I know you have a little favoritism towards your city, and that's all good, no disrespect, I love Detroit hip-hop and I've been wantin to see it gain greater popularity than the South and the East.

But tell me this, wasn't Obie's "Dope Jobs Homeless" style much better?  Simple beats, and lyrics not of a rap star but of an everyday dude trying to make it?

Em's partly to blame for SROM being not as good as it could have been, the tracks not produced by him are easily the best.
