dont fall into that mhz myth... totally different from a intel processor.... 1.6ghz G5 is not necessarily a bad machine... im still running a 733mhz g4 as my main machine... and its still kickin ass... i have 768mhz ram on it and 160 gigs of space . . those two things are the only real upgrades i have done to it...of course all new machines are faster... and i have thought of upgrading... but right now i dont need it.... because this computer i have does the job.... i wouldnt want to get a new one and not really do anything with the old one..

and i know u work alot with computers and stuff so i aint knockin your knowledge... but its still a good machine

yeah but they've been marketing it as being the most super super powerful machine ever.. how much is a 1.6 g5 these days?

and look pc8381 machine is gonna be two to three times faster

i know that some of the cell stuff will be a lot faster (1 or two tests showed that in the benchmark)

the things it did good on are some aspects of memory copy operations.. however this depends upon implementation. it did poorly on intensive maths apps.. what do games do... lets see.. in game physics? 3d graphics? drawn by the GPU yeah.. but prepped by the CPU.. oops..

and i already explained a year ago (before wii was announced) how the ps3's memory architecture is wack compared to the 360s.. its more like the OG xbox one than the 360 (and now wii) one

it'll be things that are very common to 3d engines..

but the main thing is that to get cell working right there is a lot of optimisation needed..

and i know from experience that multi-threaded programming can be a headache.

I gotta question that result a little bit. Those processors aren't designed to do the same things and are never found in equipment designed to do the same things. When you make programs for Cell processors (ie PS3 games), you don't make them how you would make programs for a G5 Mac. Thus, the better of the two will depend on what benchmark is used to measure the capabilities.

But in the end, I don't give a fuckl. Give me AMD shit all day.
