2pac is a legend for my generation.  People relate to him and love him because they feel like he was one of them.  He was flawed yet great, sensitive and loving, yet at the same time cold-hearted.  He was human.  He expressed and articulated all those emotions in his art, and it inspired many in understanding and overcoming their own struggles.  It's like that song "Black Jesus" off of the Still I Rise album... one of the Outlaws says, "We're searchin for Black Jesus, someone who smoke like we smoke, drink like we drink."  Also, 2pac himself said that Jesus rose from the dead, and that he got shot 5 times and still kept livin.  So often 2pac was referred to in a very religious way.
