Watch everyone come in here and call Shaq childish or whatever, yet ignore the fact that he was merely retaliating at what was said about him by Phil.
Isn't it fascinating how Stan Van Gundy has been censored by Pat Riley? After Riles teamed with Shaq to get Stan fired last season, the organization attempted to put the "Stan wants to spend more time with his family" on the situation.... Of course, Van Gundy had only been in the league 15 years, so there was no way for him to know there would be travel and long stretches away from his family. When he was named head coach of the Heat, it must have been shocking for him to realize all the games weren't played at home....The most nauseating memory of the press conference announcing Van Gundy's "resignation" was Riles choking back tears as he spoke about his "close friend" stepping down.... That's like the guy releasing the Guillitoine fighting back tears as his "close friend's" head rolled across the floor.... Greg Stoda of the Palm Beach Post has a great column explaining all of this, and it is a must read for anyone who believes Riles and Shaq had nothing to do with Van Gundy leaving and it was simply a matter of Stan missing his family.... These two backstabbers worked together behind the scenes to remove Van Gundy and it's a damn shame the two of them were rewarded with an NBA Championship.... A few days ago, Van Gundy told Stoda he'd be willing to do an interview "if the team agreed to it.".... Say what? Who in the hell is Pat Riley to tell Stan Van Gundy whom he can and cannot interview with? Stan is a grown man and should be free to speak freely about how Riley backstabbed him.... So what if he loses his job as a "consultant?" Van Gundy is respected around the NBA and would find another job the same day. And he could also finally hold his head up with pride again... What is this, Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union? Benedict Riley is the sole arbiter of whether Stan Van Gundy is allowed to speak?.... Maybe his new name should be Adolf Riley.... Three years ago, Van Gundy did a magnificent job cleaning up Riley's mess and turned a disastrous start into a 42-40 finish, a first round playoff win and nearly a trip to the NBA Finals. And this was with Dwyane Wade, Lamar Odom and Caron Butler, not the Big Ingrate.... The reason for Van Gundy's success? Completely junking Riley's non-sensicle grind-it-out offense and allowing Wade and Co. to get up and down the floor.... Riles quit on his team early right before the season and put his "close friend" in a real bind, but Stan turned a potential disaster into a tremendous coaching job.... The next season, the Heat made the Shaq deal and won 53 games, only to lose to the Pistons in seven games in the Eastern Finals.... Even though he disappeared in the second half of Game Seven, grabbing only two rebounds and playing no defense, the Big Moses ripped into his coach after the game, saying the team lost "because I didn't get the ball enough.".... Instead of defending his "good friend" and telling the Big Excuse" to shut his trap, Riley told the press he was "going to get more involved on the coaching end next season.".... I went on the air ane next afternoon and announced Van Gundy was finished and would be fired "over the summer or early next season.".... Riley wanted to s***-can Van Gundy right away, but the backlash from the media was so strong that he had to back down. He was lambasted for not supporting his coach and was portrayed as a backstabbing weasel out to take Stan's job away.... All of this was true, of course.... Last season, with Shaq injured and the Heat off to a slow start, Benedict Riley saw the opportunity he'd been planning for and fired Van Gundy.... Benedict was green with envy that Van Gundy had won big with a group of players he couldn't win with and wanted to be the coach who won a championship with the Heat.... So it off with Stan's head and Benedict stoel the coaching seat....
It sounds like Phil has a case of the "Now I Knows"
