West Coast Rookies for 2002...
« on: October 15, 2001, 11:36:31 AM »
Okay folks, its great Dre and Snoop and them have been holding it down for the West, but I think its time for some new artists to come out and shake shit up. I was thinking of all the talent the West has on offer, and a lot of new cats are dropping albums next year. Peep:

-Knoc-Turnal-  Looks like Dre is reallly getting behind Knoc now, putting him in his new video and producing a solo track for him on the Wash. The guy is a straight up original talent, i like his chances. (Also watch out for those other cats on the LA Confidential label - Timebomb, Slip Capone, etc)

-Crooked I -  Hate Death Row all you want, but this fool is about to blow up. Probably the best young lyricist out there right now. Beats will be from some great producers (Hutch, Darren Vegas) and well, he's gonna bring heat.

-Roscoe-  Kurupts lil bro. RAW talent, like he says he's hotter than hot sauce. I Love Cali was a pretty big radio hit, if he can come on some shit like that and mix it up with that G shit, he will be big.

-Butch Cassidy-  This cat is everywhere right now just like his cousin Nate Dogg. A fresh laid back gangsta singer, i could see him having some big hits.

-Techniec-  Nobody knows whats up with him, but if he hooks up with a good label sometime soon he could be one to watch.

-Hittman-  Awesome talent, very original, should blow up. Dre, please put his album out. please? pretty please?

-Baby S-  He's on Ruthless so um, who knows. But dude is a cool ass rapper to listen to. I like his shit a lot. Always comes tight

-Lost Angels-  Battlecats group. Ruff Dogg, King Lou and Smooth 7 are a very fresh ensemble. BC has been putting his best work into these cats, I would really like to see them drop a great album and get major props. King Lou and Ruff have been out for a minute on the underground scene, it's time to shine.

Thats just a few. Who else from the West's new breed do you think will drop a memorable debut next year?

-Knoc-Turnal-  Sometime I Feel Him And I Really Think hes Got Talent But Sometimes He Gets On My Nerves,I Do kinda Hope He Blows Up.

-Crooked I -  Who Hates Death Row, Oh Yeah, I Imagine Good Things For Him In The Future, Easily My Favourite MC At The Moment. Dont Really Know About His Beats, Could Do With DJ Quik Backin Him Up, Now That Would Be Dope.

-Techniec-  I Am Just Getting Into Him At The Moment, I Didnt Really Know That Much About Him, But He Is Actually Reak Tight.

-Hittman- One Of Those Rappers That If You Know They Had The Right Backing Behind Them They Could Be Massive. Dr Dre Was Really Hooked On Him On 2001 Cd But What The Fuck Happened At The Up In Smoke Tour.

I Suspect That Some Old Cats Will Blow Our Minds This Year:

DJ Quik - Safe + Sound 2 Could Really Do The Best Producer Ever Some Real Good, Plus He Has Got That New Deal. I Suspect A Good Year For Quik. If The New Album Will Match Classics Like Way 2 Fonky, Who Knows.

E.White - Cat from LBC, supposed to be ill

FT - Has the song, "Fuck It Less."  Breakthrough in my opinion, but not WC.

Knoc-turn'al - "Knoc's Landin" is gonna be some West coast techno/funk.  Can't wait.

Lost Angels - Ill group period.

I like the chances for everyone you listed except

Crooked I
Lost Angels

Crooked I is definetly the best MC right now, but I dont think he really has that popularity presence, of course he will show his lyrical talent, as for lost angels... if they sound like original battlecat, then no way
