I say lets start from the 80s. That would be a lot more interesting then the 70s (Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer). My vote goes from 85 till now.

Don't think that it should be any later than 1984 as we would be missing out too many great players

It will be difficult to do this and more difficult than an American sport as great footballers aren't about how good their stats are or driven by stats in the way the same way that American sports seem to be

What stats would you base a GOAT footballer on, goals per game, minutes per game, assists per game. trophies won as a team and individual, saves and blocks per game, passes completed, corners and free kicks won, bookings, international caps, major tournaments played at? the list would be endless and impossible to work on

It just got under my skin that more people weren't including the G.G.O.A.T. in their top 5 than those who were.
