"Pump Pump" - Mediorce Track or Mood Killer?
« on: March 16, 2007, 04:09:29 PM »
Was in a "Worst Song on This Classic:" topic recently. Of course Doggystyle being the commonly known classic it is, it was one of the first round draft picks. Most of the posters said "Pump Pump" was probably the worst track on the album. Now I too nominated Pump Pump because it fucked up the mood after Gz & Hustlas, I wasnt actually looking at Pump Pump as a track. So earlier I did, and it really isnt a bad track, it just isnt as smooth as the track before it, I envisioned that if Pump Pump was right after "Serial Killa" the transition would be smoother and the little lyrical moments that do flurish. (although anything could be underrated with "Whats My Name" coming on next, that kills half the whole album lol) Just my opinions though, what are yours.

I think lodi dodi or the shiznit are much weaker than pump pump. but all of these tracks are fuckin' gold.

I think pump pump is a great song and a great ending to doggystyle. only thing better woulda been gz up hoes down.

but I see what you're saying as a mood killer, though i don't agree. the transition pleases my ears perfectly.

the original next episode and or doggystyle should have closed the album. would have been tooooooo sick

Yeah, years ago I started a thread called 'Worst tracks on classic albums', and this track was my inspiration for it. I just never felt it. I actually think Malik is one of the reasons for that.

Damn Shiznit one of the weaker tracks, that my favorite Snoop joint of all time IMO the best shit he's done, I agree about the Next Episode it was intended to end the album and it would've been perfect 8)

I've never really been into "Pump Pump" pretty much for the reasons the threadstarter said, it's not a bad track it just didn't finish the album off nicely.

hm, i felt given the lack of gz up/next ep/dstyle it was the best choice.

also, shiznit's not weak not is lodi dodi I just didn't feel the production as much as I feel the production on tracks like pump pump and gz and hustlas

@ the one guy who hated "pump pump": yeah ever since this morning this track specifically is growing on me like it never did, i guess i just never gave it the chance.
@ tanjibiliity: word, ladi dadi is weak but since its a tribute to slick rick's lodi dodi it gets a pass from me, and most people i guess

whatever tracks are weak though, you cant deny that the end result isnt a undeniably solid ass album.

I think Pump Pump's a great song. Doggystyle does have some stronger and weaker songs but I wouldn't say any of them are medicore.

Whoa man, The Shiznit and weak should never be in the same sentence!!!!!!!!  The Shiznit  was completely freestyled, that shit is straight ridiculous.  I never loved it as much back in grade 8 when i first listened to Doggystyle, but i can honestly say its my favourite song off DOggystyle now.

As for Pump Pump, that song has so much energy, it is amazing.  I'd say the weakest tracks are Lodi Dodi or Serial Killa, yet i love both.  Such a great album, to me still better than The Chronic.

Pump pump is one the best tracks on Doggystyle! "now you can look to the sun and spot the moon.."
lodi dodi is too slow for the album, but still a great track and light years ahead of everything what snoop has put out in last 10 years..
