I saw the thread about the guy who deleted all his music and somebody mentioned an external hardrive

I think I have an idea but I want other people to explain to me what are they and what can they do?

i know this nerd (he's cool) who has one that he carries in his backpack with tons of movies and music so wherever he's at he can up stuff for people

i don't carry around my external since it needs a power supply and would just be lame to carry with my laptop, book, and folder (for college)
