Xzibit 40 Dayz and 40 Nightz Appreciation Thread...
« on: May 23, 2007, 03:28:12 PM »
I think after Xzibit's first 3 records you would have had to put him in the category of hip-hop's top artists.  Because how many other rappers have put out 3 solid albums in a row?  Only one I can think of is Eminem.  Because even if we talk about 2pac, I think his Apocalypse Now album isn't as dope as Xzibit's first 3 records.  Also, if we talk about the West Coast, look how weak Snoop's second and especially his third album were.  So it's safe to say, that Xzibit deserves to be considered one of the greats, for putting out 3 Dope albums in a row!

*******************

Now I want to give props to his second album, "40 Dayz and 40 Nightz".   It had a hit video with "What U See Is What U Get", that video is crazy, with all this wild stuff going on around him, and he's just walkin the streets to get some bread for his kid.  That video was number one on BET back in 98.  So the album sold like 300,000.

Xzibit really was unique in coming up with a style, that mixed bangin West Coast beats (listen to Mel-Man's production on "Welcome To L.A." and it sounds like a sneak preview to "LA Niggaz" from Dre's 2001 album), yet at the same time he could compete with any East Coast emcee at the time, and his lyrics were hard core... making it one of the most intense and bangin West Coast albums ever!  The album is fierce!!!  He's in attack mode for 90% of the album!

My favorite track is "Focus".....but I'll break it down song by song later... peace

3 is already more than most emcee's.  Name any other West coast emcee's with 3 albums equal to Xzibit's first 3 albums.

I'll agree Snoop had 3... but I think it's

1. Doggystyle
2. Top Dogg
3. Last Meal

..and then the first Eastsidaz album too

Only thing I ever liked from Too Short was the song "Gettin It".. that song is classic.  Otherwise, he's kind of a novelty act to me.

I've never listened to an Ice Cube album or a Cypress Hill album for a significant amount of time.

No doubt, Ice Cube has a lot of great songs, whether they were collaborations or solo joints, I have a lot of his stuff I listen to all the time, but as far as a whole album from beggining to end, I know he has albums considered classics, but personally I haven't listened to them like I listened to Xzibit's albums.

yeah most cypress hill albums are solid...i think their style doesnt appeal to alot of people though...its unfortunate though because they are really a good hip hop/rock band...........
