What songs have gotten you through your hardest times...
« on: July 10, 2007, 02:28:59 AM »
I should mention 2pac, "Me Against The World" or his "Makevelli" album.  But really, the album I have to mention, suprisingly, is Slimm Calhoun's forgotten album "The Skinny".  It has 3 songs that I can listen to 1,000 times when I've been in my darkest moments and it will get me through to a brighter day.  The tracks are below...

1.  "Timelock"
2.  "Lil Buddy (Till Death Do Us Part)"
3.  "Wordly Ways"

Givin' respect to 2pac September 7th-13th The Day Hip-Hop Died

Xzibit - Get Your Walk On

Still works excellent when I'm down. Something about that song makes me feel like, ah whatever, let's keep going.

Most music by singer-songwriter James Taylor.

There's something about his music, lyrics, voice and themes that just soothes me, mroe so than any hip-hop will ever manage. Especially his 1997 'Hourglass' album, which is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard.

Good thread Infinite, +1.

Zion I (f/ Talib Kweli) - "Temperature."
Common - "The 6th Sense"

I just listen to those tracks and smile. :)

if i´m feeling depressed or is in a bad mood i´ll just listen to some hella depressed music by artists that´s been thru way worse situations then me. and after that i´ll realize that whatever situation that i´m going thru aint so bad compared to what a lot of people has gone thru.

Call me crazy, but when anyone around me has dies, since about 1999, I listen to Puffy's "Ill Be Missing You"

As corny as it is, the lyrics, really helped me, particaluarly on May 29th, 2000 the day my beloved uncle died (RIP Andrew J. Lowe)

There's also this one particular folk song by Boudewijn de Groot that's extremely uplifting to me (De Vondeling van Ameland). It tells the tale of a foundling one day drifting ashore on an island, and then being found and raised by a wrecker. The foundling becomes a singular type; a fanatic with a special bond with the ocean. He can make the tide turn back by yelling at the waves in a passionate way. One day he disappears and vanishes in the waves. That's one extremely touching, epic song...

When I'm going thru hard times I like to listen to songs about hard times. It doesn't make it feel any better but it's got meaning and hunger in it, ya know? Also like to hear those songs that are very close in relation to what the artist is going thru, that I'm going thru. If that sentence just made any sense. :-\

There's so much fuckin' shit but just off the top, shit like, DMX's Slippin'. There's so much though. DMX's Look Thru My Eyes, Yung Wun - Starvin' & Robbin', Papoose - Mind, Body & Soul, Cam'ron - D Ruggs, Bone Thugs & Harmony - I Tried, Scarface - Now I Feel Ya, Tupac - Changes, Smoothe Da Hustla - Only Human etc.

Than you got the R&B and Soul shit too.

But when you just need to get out of that mood altogether, what really changes mines, is those soul records, especially when the saxaphone is in them. Alot of Motown too.

If it wasn't for this song I would of given someone else an extremely hard time
