Tameka Foster, who was scheduled to marry Usher last weekend, has reached out to People magazine to respond to rumors surrounding the couple's abruptly canceled wedding.

The singer and Foster were scheduled to wed on Saturday at Island Def Jam head L.A. Reid's home in Long Island, New York, but the wedding's cancellation was suddenly announced by Usher's reps that morning, setting off a firestorm of rumors. No reason for the cancellation was given — just a request made by Usher's personal publicist asking for privacy — but several speculative reasons attributed to anonymous sources close to Usher appeared in New York's Daily News on Monday.

One speculative explanation said that the singer got cold feet because his mother and former manager, Jonetta Patton, was not attending the wedding and did not approve of the marriage. Another said that Foster did not agree to the terms of the prenuptial; a third had it that Foster agreed to sign the document after a few minor adjustments were made.

Foster, who is pregnant with Usher's child, told People on Monday that those theories were false.

"No one knows why we canceled the wedding, but I can tell you that all of the reasons that everyone is speculating and writing about are completely untrue," she told the magazine.

Foster did not confirm whether her and Usher's wedding plans are completely off or just postponed, nor did she confirm whether the two are still an item, but judging by a comment made by Usher, the wedding appears to still be in the works.

Usher chimed in on the matter, telling UsMagazine.com in a story published Tuesday (July 31): "As of right now we don't have a date, but we will let you know when we do. Everybody's fine. Tameka and the baby are fine."

Another rumor said that Foster, 37, had gone into labor early, although their baby isn't due until some time in the fall.

Foster said she did have a health issue, though she did not go into specifics.

"We had a scare," she said to People. "But, I am fine and the baby is fine."

Usher and Foster's relationship has been a complicated one. News of their engagement was mentioned almost casually by Usher during an interview with MTV News earlier this year and the pair have been dogged by rumors ever since. Just a couple of weeks ago, Usher wrote an open letter to People angrily responding to gossip about his relationship with Foster. The singer also reportedly personally called radio jocks at certain stations asking for lenience.

A request made by MTV News for comment from Usher's camp had not been answered at press time.
