MGO Beta Delayed
Konami's beta pushed back due to overwhelming demand.

 US, April 21, 2008 - Metal Gear Solid fans were eagerly looking forward to Midnight tonight, as the anticipated Metal Gear Online Beta was scheduled to be unleashed on PS3s. Unfortunately, as Midnight came and went, the beta didn't connect to any Konami servers, appearing to miss its appointed start time. As disappointment quickly turned to anger and rage on boards around the internet, Konami of Japan posted an update on their English site notifying all players of the beta's delay till an unspecified time.

"We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test," the statement read. "However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected. As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server."

While it apologized for the delay of the beta, Konami did not furnish a new start date for the beta; instead, Konami stated that a new announcement would be made on April 22nd at 11pm PDT. However, it did mention on the site that the beta would be extended an additional five days, making the end date and time May 11th at Midnight instead of May 6th.

Unfortunately, this is the latest problem that has befallen the MGO beta: Konami suffered a setback earlier this month when their Konami ID servers (which are tied to both a game ID and character creation for the game) were quickly incapacitated by heavy traffic from users trying to register for the beta.

We'll have more on the Metal Gear Online Beta as soon as it becomes available.

Update: A short while ago, Konami of Japan updated their page, stating that the MGO beta is now scheduled to start Friday, April 25th at Midnight. However, it was stated that this new start date could potentially change as well "due to unforseen circumstances."
