With entertainment and social change in mind, last year’s West Coast Hip Hop Regional Awards event successfully captured a structure with which to develop a positive movement on the West Coast. So much so, that they’re putting on another one this October.

SKG, founder and organizer of the West Coast Regional Hip Hop Awards, has been outspoken about her mission and expectations of this ceremony. “The purpose of the Hip Hop Regional Awards goes deeper than honoring top artists who have made significant contributions to the industry. It's also about promoting diversity in the Hip Hop genre, educating the public on the work of rap and Hip Hop pioneers and to diminish the negativity associated with Hip Hop and rap.” This statement is evident in this year’s honorees which include Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks and West Coast Hip Hop pioneer Snoop Dogg.

Not stopping at just a better image for the Hip Hop community, SKG also wants it to be known that positive change starts with our youth and education. “[This] organization hopes to implement after-school music programs and initiate scholarship programs so students can pursue their dreams in college.” With that in mind, SKG has made sure that the entertainment aspect still serves its purpose.

Slated as a two-day event, the first day (Oct. 24th) will cater to fans and media with a meet and greet that goes from 5:30 pm – 1:00 am. Artists expected to be present are Crooked I (who last year won the Best Lyricist award), 40 Glocc, Western Union, and Coniyac.

Then on October 25th, the official ceremony will kick off at 6:30 pm with a slew of artists scheduled to perform. Included on the bill are Glasses Malone, Colby O’ Donis, Problem, and Strong Arm Steady alongside Talib Kweli.

The 2nd annual West Coast Hip Hop Regional Awards, this year held at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, will be hosted by actress and model Porsha Coleman, Westside Radio’s Julio G, and comic T.K Kirkland.
