POINT BLANK’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM REACHES #1 ON SOUNDSCAN INDIE ALBUM CHART! + #6 ON RAP CHART!

New tour dates announced in:
Hamilton - Club Absinthe - September 7th
Winnipeg - Pyramid Cabaret – October 5th
Edmonton - Starlight Room - October 9th

Toronto, ON – September 2, 2008

Toronto-based rap group Point Blank has experienced a triumphant first week of their release in retailers across Canada that has seen impressive numbers put up across the Canadian Soundscan Album Charts.  The group’s self-titled first album, distributed through KOCH Entertainment, debuted at Number 1 on the Soundscan Indie Top 100 Album Chart, Number 6 on the Soundscan Rap Top 100 Album Chart and Number 55 on the Soundscan Top 200 Album Chart.

Point Blank has also been receiving enthusiastic reviews in all outlets across the country, garnering a 4/5 rating in Now Magazine, comparing it to classics such as CNN’s War Report and Mobb Deep’s Murda Muzik.   Their second single “God Only Knows” has been added to rotation on MuchMusic and MuchVibe, and is currently number 3 on Toronto’s FLOW 93.5 FM OTA Live Megacity Countdown program.  Their 2nd single follows up the strength of their heavily successful “Born and Raised in the Ghetto”, which hit Number 1 on MuchMusic’s RapCity program, the video nominated for MuchMusic’s Best Rap Video Award and amassed over 300,000 views on Youtube.

Point Blank is comprised of six MC’s and one in-house producer.  Members Trouble, Imperial, Stump, Kidd, Jackal, RPD and Pikihead all grew up together in Toronto’s notorious Regent Park and have been making music together for over a decade.  The tracks are back dropped by beats from some of Canada’s most talented producers such as Grammy Nominated Tone Mason, Boi 1da, Sproxx and Mazza.  The album is intricately tied together by vintage audio-clips from the National Film Board of Canada to form a cohesive piece of work that stands as a testament to their struggles growing up in Regent Park and the lifestyle that they have grown up in as a result.  Point Blank brings us into their life, through the struggle and promise, without wanting to skip a track.

Point Blank has drawn attention from the mainstream media with performances on MTV’s flagship Live program and MuchMusic’s Much On Demand. They have also garnered the attention of more grassroots underground media with features and ecstatic reviews in Now Magazine, Exclaim, and cover placements/features with The National Post, Urbanology and Pound.

To follow up the success of their first two singles and album sales, Point Blank is releasing their third video to support this project “T.O. 2 O.T.” in September and will be following it up with tour dates across the country.  The music however, does not stop here as the early months of 2009 will see the release of an EP of classic Point Blank songs and singles, a DVD, as well as solo projects from the group members.
