SoCal mom on trial in gang murder case

LONG BEACH - A Los Angeles County prosecutor has outlined his case against a mother accused of murder for allegedly driving her son and other gang members to a deadly confrontation with rivals.

Opening statements were presented Wednesday in the Long Beach Superior Court trial of Eva Daley and an unrelated 16-year-old boy in the 2007 fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old boy.

Prosecutor John Lonergan has told the jury there was a dispute between gangs involving some disrespect of the mother. Lonergan says Daley drove her son to pick up fellow gang members and went looking for the rivals.

Public defender Javier Ramirez says Daley was just a normal mother of three trying to get by, and one of her children went bad.
