Just wondering about the older fans opinions...
« on: December 02, 2008, 08:22:36 PM »
So I'm 28, been into westcoast rap since the early 90's.  Love all the death row, g-funk, bay area, all the old school westcoast 90's rap.  I been on this forum for awhile, just about since start up.  I remember when I used to know all the shit coming out, be excited about all the news, knew all this info and shit.  Everyday there was many worthwhile topics in the forum.

I look at the shit these days, and at least 80% of the topics I don't give a shit about.  Hell, I don't even know who half these rappers are these days.  And damn near the other half I think are wack as hell.

Spider Loc - Goddamn, he has got so many damn threads in the forum these days.  The dude don't even have a fucking album out does he?  The guy is mediocre at best on his best fucking tracks!  How the fuck he get so much attention on here?  Is it him and his friend creating all these threads for publicity?

Bishop Lamont - Never understood the hype behind him...boring as shit imo, tried to get into him but couldn't.  Sounds like a Jay Z ripoff.  I was dissapointed when I heard dre was gonna fuck with him.

Glasses Malone - If I had to pick a favorite "new west" rapper it would be him.  but I'll still listen to a song from the 90's that I have heard 1000 times over anything he puts out.

Crooked I - what a waste of talent.  I used to always check for you, and would rush to download any song I could get my hands on.  I haven't heard any of the block obama's, HHW"s, and only listened to a few songs on bossacre.  Basically I lost interest.

Nipsey Hustle (or whatever) - so today I see several threads about him...who the hell is he?

Rome - I saw this big announcement about him getting signed...who the hell is he?

Fuck man, over half the threads are about rappers who I've known about for several years now, are considered "new west" and still don't have a fucking album out!!!  How long are you considered "new west"?

Its funny how a lot of these "new west" rappers and the young fans on here talk about the old washed up rappers and how they need to hang up the mic and let the new young "talent" take over.  Now I admit that I don't like much of the music that is put out by my old favorite rappers these days, but I got news for you: Ice cube, mc eiht, snoop dogg, ren, warren g, etc. are not the ones stopping these "new west" rappers from taking over.  News flash rappers: In order to take over, you would need to put a album out.  Say what you want about the old washed up rappers who need to retire, but these guys are putting albums out, something that seems nobody from the "new west" can do.  I think that most of the "new west" is bitter, jealous, and frustrated...which is only going to hurt their chances.  Snoop, mc eiht, cube, ren, e-40, spice 1, kurupt...these guys were hungry...they had passion for their music.  it seems like all the new west care about is becoming the next 50 cent.

All you that say snoop, cube, mc eiht, all them old guys need to retire...guess what, when they do, there will be no more westcoast rap scene.  It will be gone...history.  Ain't nobody checking for lil eazy, bishop lamont, spider loc, or crooked I...cause if they were then you bet there would be a label ready to break bread and put out an album.

There is still good music out on the west. Actually more and more of the really dope shit are alot of the street albums on this website from the west but I agree with you, there is enough room for everyone to do they thing on the west.

i agree

i just cant seem to get into some of these newer cats on the scene

i always end up going back to my old albums or check for new albums from older artists
Always talkin bout the cash he got, the little pesos for shows
And God knows his materialistic raps and wack flows
are like Stay Free pads, fake V.I.P. rappers get garbage disposed

Back in the days they rapped because rap was their passion. These days they rap because they want to make a quick buck. That's why so many "new west" rappers suck so bad.

jay rock, ab-soul, and k-dot that whole click is dope trust me. jay rock knows how to do matured west coast music. a lotta people dont like game but his music is the shit. i dont give a fuck what anybody say he can flow. six2 can flow like nobody else can (not west coast but still a newer rapper). g malone got some cuts especially that white lightnin mixtape. that shit was sick. young maylay got a lotta talent. check those artists out and you wont be dissappointed. almost forgot to mention mitchy slick and messy marv...

.i agree 4 tha most part...but some of the new west coast rappers make good music....but u dont need to go creating conflict...with those who went b4 u....if u really had some balls...u would put the blame where it needs 2 b.....and stop making scapegoats out of snoop dre cube etc ....half them new west niggaz in they 30 s anyway....who they calling old....miles davis made music till the day he died....why does rap have to b lead by teenagers(souljah boy and his slavery comments frighten me ???)......and y do we keep pressuring tha legends 2 retire....what other musical genre does this.....rap got it backwards....

Yeah, the roll on em track is dope.

LOL @ calling mitchy slick and messy marv new.  Messy put out albums in the 90's and Mitchy slick's first album came out years ago...they are hardly new...about as new as crooked I.

And i still believe in a great Knoc-turn'al comeback  8)

agree completely.. even though i find myself listening to less and less 90's rap as the year goes by as well (death row, gfunk, bay shit).

i'm 25, so i know me and you share similar tastes in music.

so the artists i believe you should check for would be: Problem, Bad Lucc, Terrace Martin, Blu, Pacific Division.

Blu and Pacifici Division have probably some of the biggest buzz LA has seen in awhile. they make Excellent hip hop. QUALITY.

Bad Lucc and Problem can just straight rap, and fuck shit up. Bad Lucc is easily top prospect on the west for me, in the g-rap realm.

I almost see Terrace as one of the backbones of the west right now. He's got everyone stepping their game up, Quik, Snoop, Kurupt, etc..
And he brings everyone together on the same page. Bounce Rock Skate, and I'm Toe Up Remix. Got a whole album with Murs coming out...

Im 28 also dude but there is a gang a talent out there i feel what you saying cause we grew through that whole NWA, Dr Dre, Deathrow era etc but like i said you need to give the new cats a listen cause they do got some talent man its jus tryin to break the surface a lil more with the fans still stuck in time...unless we accept and move on the west will never move forward IMO...but in saying that the west is really alive and kicking right now 100%
