Your tip on the next to blow?
« on: January 06, 2009, 02:10:45 PM »
Tips on who you believe will make it big in 2009. Looks like electro-pop will be taking over the charts in 09 as all the music critics seem to be hyping up artists making that music at the moment.

My tips to make it big are:

TAIO CRUZ
Basically the UK version of Neyo. He has the hits already in the UK and he has penned tracks with everyone from R Kelly to the Pussycat Dolls. I think in 09 he's targeting the US and I can't see any reason why he shouldn't find himself some success.

KID CUDI
I'm not that much of the Day-N-Nite track but the Crookers remix is alright. Anyway he's got Kanye backing him and all the critics are labeling the next big US hip hop artist. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more success in the UK than the US cause of his more electro style music although his appearances on Jays and Kanyes albums will help him.

Anymore suggestions btw here's some links to what the critics are saying could blow:

Of all the blog touted 'new kids' (think CuDi, Asher Roth, B.o.B., etc.), Charles Hamilton is the only one whose personality and, crucially, music really excite me. "Brooklyn Girls" is one of the best singles I've heard in a while, and it's so distinctly Hip-Hop. The fact that it's been created by some quirky 21 year old makes him seem like an even bigger prospect. He's got Pharrell and Kanye backing him now, though, so I guess he's becoming an increasingly obvious pick...

On the West Coast, I've liked that cat Convinced for a while now. I'm starting to see his name pop up on some other sites - caught him on DubCNN first, of course! - so hopefully he can get some things popping in 2009.

"Shit ain't all peaches and cream, and I ain't Sara Lee, bitch!" - Lloyd Banks

"I'm Morpheus in this Hip-Hop Matrix, exposing fake shit." - Common

"With consecutive platinum hits, I up my status. Ain't no more Calvin Broadus!" - Snoop

"Look at all these conscious rappers - guess who influenced them?" - KRS One

of those 4 guys, asher roth, b.o.b, charles hamilton and kid cudi, i think they all have a great chance to blow up in 09. but they probably all won't, and they probably all won't drop albums this year. they've all got big names backing them and distinctive characteristics. but if i had to choose one that i think will blow up, i think it'll be asher roth. he's got a great personality and appeals to more than the rap audience.

I could see Taio Cruz becoming popular in the US.

I'd like to see what Asher Roth can do.  "I Love College" sounds like it's gonna be huge with the college crowd (duh).

I think Keri Hilson & Ciara are gonna have big records this year.

As far as newcomers, there's a bunch I'd like to see blow up this year, but I don't think they will (James Fauntelroy, Jermaine Paul, Problem).

I think Funky House could do quite well this year as well. Crazy Cousinz and Donaeo are making some big club tunes at the moment. African Warrior, Devil in a Blue Dress, Bongo Jam and Do You Mind are all fire!

kevin cossom is going to do big things with his album this year. with danja spending a large amount of '08 working on it and labelling it as the best international record since justin timberlake's last album, expect it to be fire.
