Then that really is retarded of him. He really has no chance of succeeding with this album. Even if he doesn't completely suck. Look at John Cena. Rap wasa huge passion for him and he even had guys in the underground saying he wasn't bad but once the album dropped nobody cared. Phoenix would literally have to record the greatest album of the decade just to get people to say he's not bad.

hes lookin like some sick ass blues dude, i think it would make more sense if he did a bluesy cashish album, i couldnt hear waht he was rapping but it couldnt be any good, and why isnt what johnny doing cosidered rap? cause of the coutnry sounding background, the vocals are straight rap, look up the lyrics, hes flowin his ass off

thats a dumb argument, genres are irrelevant, shallow might give us his its all rock speech, but just listen to it, are you really missing it, look beyond the voice or the music, hes not fully 'singing'

Nah, I was going to keep the it's all rock out of it.

Cham, I never said they were rap songs or should be classified as Hip Hop but if you take the vocal tracks of either I've Been Everywhere, or Devil Went Down to Georgia, added an echo effect and had Rick Rubin producer an 80s style beat they would fit right in on any 80s Def Jam album. Johnny Cash is rapping on those country tracks. Just like Charlie Daniels is rapping on the original Devil Went Down to Georgia

or on Uneasy Rider '88

He's not singing. He is rhythmically speaking in rhyme. I'm not saying he's Rakim. I'm saying he's rapping. Just like Bob Dylan here;

and here

or Frank Zappa was here

or Bruce Springsteen was here

and later here

or Woodie Guthrie is here

and ofcourse Aerosmith was rapping here, later re-rapped by Run DMC

People never shut up about black music and how blacks created rock and evolved it, but no one will ever give credit to the white lyricists that helped evolve rapping long before Rakim or Nas ever touched a mic. They didn't invent the style but each one of those guys had a lot to do with influencing the black artists that modern rappers were influenced by.

Anyone get the feeling that this might be a joke that he is cooking up.. I mean all of a sudden he starts acting like he doesn't give a fuck, falls on the stage like a bum and the whole thing is being filmed by Casey Affleck for a documentary about his new "career".. It seems like there is something more about this whole thing, that we are not told.. Maybe they are doing a "Borat" kind of mocumentary, without letting the publick know. At least that's some of the speculation out there.
"I have loved you," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'In what way have you loved us?' "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" Says the LORD. "Yet Jacob I have loved" - Malachi 1:2
