So how did hip-hop heads feel about Rakim & Dre era
« on: February 27, 2009, 02:42:49 PM »
I can't tell because back then I didn't have world wibe web yet  :P

As far as I know there are 4 tracks from that era:

- Addictive (original version)
- Addicitve remix
- After You Die
- The Wacther 2
- R.A.K.I.M.

I'm espeically curious what was the general opinion on Addictive. I liked that joint and when I heard the remix I thought to myself that it should've been the jump off single for "Oh My God". Since he was on major, a crossover record was to be expected and Addictive did just that without being corny. Of course "After You Die" is an amazing track imo, from production to subject matter. Didn't really like the 8 Mile joint mostly because of the wierd ass beat from Denuan Porter. I also remember reading that Dre turned down several Premo tracks right ?

Shit, I completley forgot about The Watcher 2, another classic track and that 50's "Heat" was originally a Rakim beat but didn't know what direction to take ?

I would love to hear to this Oh My God stuff, this album was very expecting at this time.

I really liked Addictive (i like Truth Hurts's album too), it's just shit Iovine rejected the album (even if Ra' left the label because of difference between him and Dre), it was surely straight fire, like for Detox, I remember Dre worked on it during a long time... the two monsters were working together > Dre and Primo (anyone would love hear this shit).

"Cruel World" (written on Vault's Dre) is song i would like to hear, to feel more the Oh My God sounds and kind of beat.

If i have good memory, they talked about a Rakim/Eminem collaboration...

I hope to hear this unreleased album in the future...  ::)

I Liked both Addictive's..
It was defo alot of time lost tho, IMO

It would not suck to someday hear those sessions..
Tho I doubt we ever will, Then again "Thy Kingdom Come" did leak/Release in some form..
(That's King Tee BTW 4 those that don't know)

But yeah bro.. I defo consider it a missed oppertunity for RA mostly & Hip-Hop.

I just get sad.  Rakim is the GOAT to me and to hear him on some Dre production is something I'm sorry to miss.  RAKIM was so underrated.  The beat is a weird timed, off step, chugging type of thing, and Ra just rips it.  Who else could flow to that beat and make it work.

I was so hyped for this back in 02 and 03 along with detox.  All the tracks he did during his time at aftermath were great.  Wish we could've heard the album.  hopefully there will be a collab on detox :)

Hate It or Love It (I would put scratching instead of 50) & the joint with M.O.P should have been released. They lived up to the hype.
