Hello everyone. I am new on this forum. I just have a simple question. I have special shows recorded in a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000. I am moving to another state and I have to return it to the cable company. I noticed, it has a USB port. Is there any way to transfer the recorded programs to my laptop or thumb drive? Thanks.

FlightdocSorry, It is not possible. First the 8000 does not have an output suitable for recording (it's HD format is not a standard PC one) and the USB port is not active. In addition, the data on the Hard Drive is encoded with a key that is unique to the DVR that recorded it. So even if you could transfer the data to something else, you would not be able to play it.

However, you can make an analog recording (video tape or DVD) from the analog output. You probably have a specific "Record to VHS" function in the List playback menu.

hmmmm.... so could you record it to DVD then rip the copied DVD?

i did some googling and i found out i can send the video to my laptop through firewire. i will rip it tomorrow

Mind if we have a update on the situation, I'm a huge N.W.A. fan and I seen a lot before (Even that home video) but from what I've seen it actually goes really deep into it.  8)
