Nuttso - The BetrayalReleased only on cassette in 1996, Nutt-so's The Betrayal was an underground sleeper that initially did not find its way much farther than the indie Bay Area scene. Much like the EMG album, Nutt-so primarily sold this album out of his trunk and in a very limited number of local record stores. It was during his work on this album that Nutt-so linked up with 2Pac, resulting in the recording of Words 2 My First Born (Things Are Changing), Ghetto Star, This Life I Lead, and several other original tracks. All was not good with The Betrayal, as it was plagued with some problems beyond its very limited distribution. The manufacturer of the album used high speed dubbing to produce the product rapidly and cheaply, resulting in rather poor sound quality throughout the cassettes. Additionally, the B-side of the album was presented in far worse quality than the A-side. To add insult to injury, Nutt-so's team did not hold the master (or even a dub of the master) of the song with 2Pac, so again quality suffered even more. In fact, the song with 2Pac was never officially approved by Death Row Records for placement on the album and a cassette dub from the mixed down demo version (without the sax or chorus layers added yet) was smuggled out of the studio and this is the version that was placed on The Betrayal. What this means is that the B-side was already bad, and the 2Pac song is essentially dub of a dub on top of that. This album was never released on CD, and likely will never see an official re-issue. G.O. Twice, the primary producer of the album has a very rocky relationship with Nutt-so, and the two publicly feuded over the public leak of a few tracks - including Don't Sleep (G.O. Twice Remix). From our perspective, we saw G.O. Twice link up with Candyman187 (fraud) back when he was helping with the Son Rize album, and Don't Sleep was given to him. Candyman187 in turn gave the song to me to remix or cpu gen the vocals (lol) but at the same time also sold the song to UKI, who sold it to Nino, who posted it on his short lived hoodstars website. Nutt-so became aware of the leak almost instantly, and blamed G.O. Twice since they were the only two people in possession of song. Since then I have not heard a nice word between them...For sale is the album as it should have been - a fully digital and uncompressed wave rip of the studio master reels. Our version of the album is presented in perfect digital quality and no tracks have any noticable flaws. No remastering was necessary whatsoever, so what you will receive is the pure quality, unaltered album. The one exception to the album's flawlessness is that due to the story about Words 2 My First Born (Things Are Changing) above, that single song was still in relatively poor quality even on this studio version of The Betrayal. Quite honestly, I do not believe that 2Pac intended the song to be on Nutt-so's album since it is really a 2Pac featuring Nutt-so song and not the other way around. The fact that Nutt-so doesn't have the masters seems to solidify that notion. As always, and even in 1996, having 2Pac on your album means a lot and will indeed mean more sales.Nutt-so - The Betrayal1. The Betrayal2. Another Day At The Pool3. Bullets Over The Bloc's4.
