AZ Sign Pontus Wernbloom From IFK Goteborg

Eredivisie champions AZ have completed the transfer of Swedish youngster Pontus Wernbloom from IFK Goteborg for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal.

The Swedish international successfully completed a medical test on Wednesday. Wernbloom will join his new club at the end of this Eredivisie campaign.

The versatile midfielder made his Goteborg debut in 2005 and made 86 appearances for the Swedish side ever since, scoring 22 goals.

Wernbloom expressed his delight with the deal after having signed his contract.

"I was ready for the next step in my career after four years at IFK. I will never forget what the club did for me, but I'm delighted with this transfer. AZ are a great team," said the midfielder on the official IFK website

The transfer of Wernbloom feeds speculation that Dutch international Demy de Zeeuw is on the verge of leaving AZ. The midfielder is being linked with German side Hamburger SV.
