this is what they use at my college:-

Adobe:
photoshop-for photo editing & graphic design
Image Ready- for making gif animation and roll overs + qt movs
Go Live- for making wed pages/sites
Live Motion- for Flash animation
Illistrator- for drawing flat colored graphix

Macormedia:-
Flash- for makeing flash animations
Dream Weaver- for making web pages/sites
Poser- makes 3d human/animal models
Bryce- makes just about anything 3d
