How do I get to the mountain to free the Titan Brother in God of War 2?

I've managed to get to the part on God of war 2 where Kretan comes back from Hades and becomes mortal again thanks to Zeus betraying him. I managed to get past all the Griffons in the air by using Pegasus but when it comes to running away from the guy on the Raven I can't get away from him and always die when Pegasus is hit. I also can't figure out what what the moving controller is for when it flashes red on the screen. This is God of War 2 for PS2.
