Do you think sports analysts...
« on: June 07, 2009, 12:09:12 PM »
Really give their true opinion??  I mean, Im sure (just like anyone else) they want to further their career. Part of that, for an analyst is to gain popularity and become more and more noticeable.  Would it make sense for an analyst to go with the flow and copy what the next guy says? Or do you think they simply say the most ridiculous shit they can to stand out?  One thing Ive always noticed, was when youd have a panel of 2 or so analysts (on any sport really), and there is 2 opposing viewpoints...they ALWAYS take opposing sides. lol So scripted...

Outside of Charles Barkley, not really. I mean you can tell who's kind of going for who, but they all usually try to follow a path, usually with whoever the real experts call the favorites, or in some cases, they always root for the underdogs. For example, Cris Collinsworth is without a doubt one of the best football analyst there is. But when NBC lost football, he was only doing basketball with NBA on NBC. Now he was decent at basketball, but since he was not as familiar with the sport, his opinions tend to basically go to, Michael Jordan, best player today, you can't stop him. Now well this is true, it was not what you expect from someone who basically can take game plans, cut them up and tell the people what's going on. A true analyst does that, and Cris Collinsworth did that with football, but was not able to do that with basketball. I noticed that outside actual players who played, most analyst are afraid to state what they think. So they go to default, Lakers have more talent top to bottom, as oppose to saying, hey Dwight Howard can win a match up with Andrew Bynum and could get Pau Gasol in foul trouble, which would win the inside game opening up 3 pointers from the other 4 players. You aren't hearing that. Now if NBA on TNT was doing the finals, then yes, you'd hear that.
