Yeah its obvious soccer is the number one sport because it takes no money to play. That's the thing about hockey, its such an expensive game to play. That's why at least in my opinion you don't see many minorities playing. Its just too damn pricey

exactly, but fact Hockey is expensive doesn't make it a good one either.

the cost has nothing to do with the game.

that's why a lot of minorities play Basketball, they spend 10 bucks on a crappy ball at Modells & can ball for years; but Basketball is a fun, exciting sport to watch. ;D

u might be right on asia..but at least africa has a baseball team?(u do like realize um every country in the world has a "soccer" team?) :stupid:

and you said nothin bout south america..i know..but you said only one continents main sport was soccer an i disagreed citin the continent of south america as an example ...plus if only poor countries like it why dont porta rica and the other countries you named their no better off than brazil, argentina etc  :stupid:

by all means enjoy your sports...but dont sit there sayin the rest of the world is wrong for enjoying one of the oldest sports still played on a grand scale LOL

^Baseball? yes lol.

glove - $75 is a cheap one.
bat - wood - $70 is a cheap one & they break; metal - $150 is a cheap one.
cleats - $50 are cheap ones.
gotta pay to join a team & for uniforms.

if you want to play seriously, you need to put up at least $250-300.

Basketball is fairly cheap.

but those small islands make due of what they have; Sammy Sosa used a milk carton for a glove & started out hitting bottle caps with broom stick handels.

plus, it shows actual talent; if the ENTIRE world plays Soccer, how valuable is one Soccer player?

not the superstars, but the average role players? if you're coordinated enough to play & you start when you can walk anybody can play Soccer professionally, somewhere in the World.

when you watch Baseball, Basketball or Football, it's nice to know the best of the best are playing because you have to be gifted enough to play the sport.

i never said the World is wrong to enjoy it; the thread starter said "why does it get so much hate"; it's boring, hands down & people who can't play other sports or people who can't experience other sports stick to Soccer.

just because it gives people equal opprotunity to play doesn't mean it's a great sport though.

LOL at some of the posts in this thread, seriously WTF  ::)

Football (soccer) is the worlds most popular sport, thats pretty much common knowledge whether you wanna admit it or not, every continent in the world plays soccer, and another thing

your kidding me right? thats one of the most bollocks things ive read in a while.

Soccers not a piss easy sport to play like you lot all seem to think and if it is then how come the US have no star players and the MLS is one of the worst leagues in the world? it takes more skill to play than Baseball and more skill than it requires to be one of the big fat guys blocking in NFL who need an oxygen mask after every 30 second play  :-X

Another thing, Soccer isnt the only recognised sport played in Europe, thats just fucking retarded to even suggest that; Cricket/Rugby/Tennis/Athletic are all bigger sports in Europe than American Football/Baseball/Ice Hockey or Basketball, Americas 4 main sports are only played on a major scale in America, in Europe we got NFL but nobody cares for it, we got Ice Hockey but its not at all popular, shit Rounders (for girls) is more popular than Baseball over here, the most popular out of all your 'main' sports is Basketball

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world because you don't have to go buy pads/helmets/iceskates for it or find a massive space of land to play Baseball, football is easy to pick up and play, the closest thing you've got to that is Basketball, while Soccers cheap to play for a kick in the park at a professional level it's expensive. You mentioned Sammy Sosa playing with crap equipment/conditions, do you realise how many greats equivalent to that there are in Brazil/Argentina? Where they learn to play in slums in shanty towns barefooted etc etc And these are the two most successful countries at National level, your telling me theres no talent in that ???

And lol at you all saying Soccer is boring, American Football/ Basketball have stoppages damn near every other minute, and all i will say about Baseball and Hockey is theres a reason people get drunk when they watch it...o and you know sports betting is allowed in other countries apart from the great America  ::)

And if you google it....

Hockey is far more exciting to watch then soccer. You don't need alcohol to enjoy it at all. They only have 3 stoppages every 20 mins and its constant action.Instead of a ball being kicked back and forth over a huge field its condensed with far more action.More goals and people getting hit left and right and fighting on top of that. Its non stop action.Soccer theirs what maybe two goals a game on average with no physical contact and people kicking a ball back and forth all game.Wow how exciting. The only reason hockey isn't bigger is because of the expensive costs of it.A hockey arena is very expensise to maintain. The equipment prices are through the roof.Buts its an adrenaline sport with very few stoppages lots of physical contact and great atheletes. On average a shift in the nhl lasts 35 seconds for each player because of the physical exhaustion the game requires

I mean all those countries that have soccer teams probably don't have an ice rink in their entire country because they can't afford one.

Its bollocks to say that it could never the number one sport because its not an american sport? What? There's Ice Hockey in england/europe so its not like americas the only one with the facilities, its just that it doesnt appeal to everyone because over here alot of guys dont want to learn how to ice skate, while Soccer is piss easy to go have a kick about with mates, its a laugh and its simplistic, you dont have to go a ice rink, pay to get in then be able to ice skate, thats the number reason ice Hockey will NEVER be a bigger sport than Soccer

Because its expensive to play and takes a variety of skills.Hockey players are easily the most well rounded atheletes in sports. You won't find any out of shape players and their all physically strong and have to use their entire body

Because its not an american sport.America would never let a sport that isn't their own be number one.

Hit the nail on the head there.

I used to play field hockey when I was younger, and I can see the appeal of ice hockey. But 'soccer' allows for much more skillful and artistic expression than any other sport, which is why it's number one.

Like I said, basketball is close to 'soccer' in this respect and it has a lot of fans over here in the UK. The rest are uniquely American sports with complex laws which cater more to strategy than athleticism. On that note, it's surprising how cricket hasn't taken off in the US but that's probably cos it's played by Eurofags.

bingo.+1 good point . I really like Ice Hockey too, but without pay-tv= no ice hockey.

I agree with you that hockey takes a lot of skills. But one question: How is it possible that Chris Chelios is still a professional with 47? Even the best/ most athletic football player couln't do that.

great post

how? he showed how many fans each sport has lmao.

The amount of people who play & are fan to a sport does NOT mean it's a good sport.

Lil' Wayne has more fans than anybody else in music but that doesn't mean his music is good. :stupid:
