The Watcher II
« on: November 25, 2009, 05:01:09 AM »
So I peeped this song today for the first time since a few years.Don't really know why I hadn't bumped it in such a long time lol

But this song is CRAZY in every fucking aspect.Jay really has an outstanding performance here IMO, he really ripped it.Dre does his thing, Hittman wrote a nice ass verse and Dre is really good when it comes to flowing if you ask me.And Rakim of course delivers an exceptional performance.I love his verse!

I really like how Dre redid the original beat. The beat here is more menacing, he has added a lot of new elements, and changed some from the original.I love it how you have trumpets during the chorus in the 2001 version, and during the chorus of II he has replaced them with an orchestra sound, which builds up towards the end of the chorus. The effect is really emphasized right before Rakim's verse, you still hear the orchestra sound when ra begins his verse with "I'm Rated R".Man, I love this shit

Shame we will probably never again hear those 3 in the form they display here

Of course it's the best track in this abortion of an album called Blueprint 2. Dre reproduced the shit out of it. I'm not sure if Hittman wrote Dre's verse. It could be Hitt, Jay, Em or Rakim but it's good as usually. But Jay and Ra really shine on this. Ra has some classic lines.

I'm still alive and scopin
Be another hundred years 'til my skies close in
And I'ma die with my eyes open, the watcher

I never really got this line from Jay though.

We give, Dre his props BUT that's where it stops
It's the Roc

Classic. Can't agree more about the beat. It is a shame Dre does not do many remixes

Always sounded more like a James Bond 007 theme song rather than a Watcher II.

Great track, the best track on "BP2". I wish the full version of the original version would leak someday, Hittman's verse was tight.

Doin all sorts of twisted shit with they fingers  ;D
