WASHINGTON -- Right-hander Stephen Strasburg was scratched from Tuesday's start against the Braves. Instead Miguel Batista made the spot start.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Strasburg had problems getting his arm loose during his warmups in the bullpen. The phenom is listed as day-to-day. He will have an MRI soon.

The phenom was seen warming up before game. When it was announced that he was scratched, the fans at Nationals Park were upset and booed.

Strasburg has pitched in nine games and is 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA. He has a team-leading 75 strikeouts.

Damn, they say it's nothing serious, but that's not good to hear this early in his career. They said they wanted to get him 160 innings, but I'm sure it'll be even less now. Shame to see. $:-\$

Just heard that his next scheduled start is Sunday vs. the Phillies.

Nationals RHP Strasburg heads to 15-day DL

WASHINGTON (AP)—Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg(notes) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder.

Thursday’s move is retroactive to July 22, a day after he made his last appearance. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft was scratched minutes before he was to make his 10th major league start Tuesday, because his right shoulder felt stiff while he was warming up in the bullpen.

Strasburg is 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA, 75 strikeouts and 15 walks in 54 1-3 innings since making his major league debut June 8.

By sending Strasburg to the DL, they are able to activate left-hander Scott Olsen(notes), out since May with a shoulder injury. Olsen is to start Washington’s game against Atlanta on Thursday.
