Artists like Jay-Z and Puff lead the way for a trend that has finally come full circle, where rapper aren't selling their skills and art, as much as they are actually selling a lifestyle. Look at the Rockefella ads from the Source and XXL, they would have the artists chilling in upscale clubs afterhours with blonde women and bottles of champaigne. Contrast that with the early 90's and YoMTV rap host Fab 5 Freddy going to the hoods where rappers came up and doin interviews and selling the real lifestyle that artists came up in; they tried to show something real the fans could relate to, and sell that back then. Here is Puffy's former sidekick Loon talking about how their goal as artist was to sell a lifestyle to kids that wasn't totally representative of what was really going on. They only wanted to show one side of fame to the kids, who were easily taken in by it all...http://www.youtube.com/v/qhLWOXKlHys&hl=en_US&fs=1&
