Wiz Khalifa signed to Atlantic Records?
« on: May 05, 2010, 07:43:53 PM »
Quote
According to industry insiders, Pittsburgh’s Wiz Khalifa has been signed to Atlantic Records for close to a month now. (You may have noticed Kush and Orange Juice, the title of his most recent mixtape, trending on Twitter and Google.) Asked about the signing, Khalifa said, “Whatever people want it to be, that’s what it is. I didn’t say yes, I didn’t say no.” Either way, he released Kush independently, planning, as he told VIBE.com, the publicity behind the project himself. “The mixtape was done last month, but I really wanted to do it up and make sure something like this [buzz] would happen,” he said. “I got some more tricks up my sleeve, too.”

Good looks, all these new school dudes bka Chess Club are getting major deals like they deserve.   These execs are waking up!  But you can't say Wiz didn't make this himself, he's been grinding for a good 3 years now...

Cool breeze; I'm hopping out of new Beams
My outfit ran me a few G's but none of that will matter if you leave
I used to be an Adam with two Eves and shawtys automatically do me
Excuse me, all that happened before you doesn't matter
I'm a vision of the future climbing the success ladder
Recline, in the mean time, twenty three shine, diamond bling blind as I rewind

You just need one independent artist with that one single that grabs the public and a team that understands how to work the radio and blam! the idea of being on a major probably won't be appealing.

I view it one of 2 ways.

You can be like Nas - you just want to create music and not work too hard

or

you can be like jay - you want to create music and make lots of fucking money and thus work really hard

Lupe ain't quitting because his label is raping him...  Lol.  He has stated numerous times that he wants to move on from rapping, he likes producing and the behind the scenes stuff alot.

J. Cole, Lupe Fiasco, Asher Roth, B.o.B., Wale, Blu, Kid Cudi and Charles Hamilton all released (J Cole is about to) albums under major labels...

Same thing.  Major label funding for an album = good.

I don't care how I get it, lol.
