"Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." - Thomas Jefferson
Let's not change this into another Atheism vs. Believers discussion.

It is so much more than that, and fear does not have to be part of it at all. It is a primordial urge of man to transcend himself and live beyond himself, because we are more than just our physical bodies. There are moments in life when we transcend our physical bodies. For people who aren't used to this concept or idea a basic example, is an athlete describing being in a zone. When suddenly the goal looks wider, he feels taller and stronger, and he is now moving to a rhythm that is greater than he could of imagined. Being in love, is another common example of people feeling this emotion, or if your on a mountain overlooking a great city or countryside, etc.People try to reduplicate this feeling. It brings out the higher creativity levels in man, and it's not a forced thing, but rather an opening up to the infinite energy that is a part of all living things on this earth, and alive in everyone.
