Clyde Carson's Track gets taken by DMX
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:20:57 PM »
Okay so you guys remember when Clyde went in with Johnathan "JR" Rotem and his artist Sean Kingston and recorded for Theater Music? They came out with two tracks that we know of and that was "Doin That" and "In Da Club". Both of which featured Kingston and "In Da Club" Also features Game. Now on HipHopDx there is a new version with DMX using the beat....WTF CLYDE! why he just let his music go to waste I dont know.

They couldn't clear Sean Kingston if I remember correctly. Something about the label didn't want him doing "gangsta" type tracks because that wasn't the image they wanted for him.

Clyde Carson doesnt do Gangster Rap he does Hyphy music. Listen to both of the tracks he does with Kingston. Theres nothing Gangster about them man. You might be right about his label not wanting him to do that but that doesnt tie in with these tracks. The reason JR gave the beat to DMX is cause Clyde couldnt get Capitol to put the album out. Thats why tracks like this leaked back in 09. Half his album was leaked and nothing ever came out so JR gave the beat to someone else.

Ya I know he doesn't do that type of music. This song was made not long after Sean Kingston first came out, in like 2007. He had that beautiful girls song and shit and thats what the label was going for with him. When I used the word gangsta I just meant they didn't want Sean doing hooks for the more "hard" style of hip-hop at the time. And the label abandoned promoting the song because of the clearance issue. It all happened well before they decided to shelf his shit.

I see what your saying. Still a shame that Capitol isnt pushing Hip Hop like they used to. Clyde would have done well with the right promotion. But then again, he doesnt have much of a work ethic. I guess thats cause his juice company made him so much money.

and to the dude that mentioned "Colors"....Game was on the remix of that song. The original version which was a bonus on Kingston's album didnt have Game on it.

Lol I know it's dumb, but that was the reason that I remember hearing when they stopped pushing it. I remembered reading it from somebody in JR Rotem's camp posting it on Siccness. I dug up the thread. Totally forgot that there was a Flo-Rida version of the song too, and a Spider Loc one. Ppl on the Sicc were bitching about why Flo-Rida was now taking the same song (without knowing that Flo's version actually came before Clyde's) Here is what was said:

"Producers send out tracks to many different A&R's, artists, etc. JR likes to send out tracks with Kingston already on the hook.

Atlantic wanted that track for Flo, but they slept, Carson snatched it up.

Beluga Heights is a co-venture with Epic Records. Epic makes the final decisions. We wanted Sean to be on it, because it should have been a hit and we want Sean to have street edge as well. Epic wanted Sean to maintain his "Beautiful Girls" image, which we didn't want.

Finally after a while, Epic gave in (since most of the hooks Sean does are more hip-hopish) cleared Sean, and Capitol tried to regain the momentum that was lost when they were forced to stop the "leak" to radio. It's hard enough getting spins for a single, 10x harder to tell a radio station to stop playing, and then give them an OK 4 weeks later, thinking they will start spinning it again.

Anyone can take any beat and rap to it, I can take a old Dr. Dre beat and spit on it right now. But the right to distribute it on an album and make money off it must be paid for and you have to have contracts for it."
