Lindsay Lohan could be released after just 14 days

Socialite Lindsay Lohan could be released from a 90-day prison sentence sooner than expected, due to a combination of administration errors and overcrowding.

The Hollywood actress is expected to walk free from Lynwood jail on August 2, having served only 14 days of her 90-day sentence, according to a Sheriff's Department booking document.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore went a step further saying Lohan could possibly serve only 13 days in jail instead of 14, according to the LA Times.

"Her projected release date is August 1 or August 2," he said, explaining that information initially posted on the Sheriff's inmate information website was based on one 30-day sentence because of a clerical mistake which should have made it two 30-day sentences.

A website, which tracks projected release dates, was changed to reflect Lohan serving 51 days after factoring in time for good behaviour.

As a nonviolent female inmate, the star is eligible to serve only about 25 per cent of the 51 days because of overcrowding, which brings the final figure to 13 or 14 days, Whitmore said.

Officials said Lohan was completely cooperative when she was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility on Tuesday morning.

The 24-year-old was whisked away without comment to a Beverly Hills courtroom, where she was put in handcuffs and transported to Lynwood to begin her sentence for violating parole after a 2007 drunk driving conviction.

"We love you Lindsay!" her father, Michael Lohan, shouted from the viewing gallery. One fan bore a T-shirt with Lohan's picture and the inscription "Linnocent" while others threw gold confetti in her path.

After the booking, Lohan entered the jail's triage, where she was due to receive a standard medical and psychological evaluation, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department Steve Whitmore told media members gathered outside the jail.

State guidelines for handling prisoners would apply to the actress, although "people with notoriety are kept away" from the general jail population for security purposes, he said.

Lohan arrived to begin her sentence shortly after 8.30am at the Beverly Hills courthouse.
"She is scared, as anyone would be, but she is resolute," her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley said. "She asks for prayers and support. She has accepted responsibility."

The actress had been convicted of missing seven classes of a mandatory 90-day, in-patient substance abuse programme.

While she broke down in tears at an earlier court appearance, Lohan seemed composed and resigned this time.
