That's a good album.

Also check out the Ethiopiques series and some Fela Kuti.

My two favorite African artists are the late reggae artist Lucky Dube (murdered 3 years ago) of South Africa, and Viviane Ndour of Senegal.  I learned about them during my travels to the West African countries of Senegal and Gambia.  Lucky Dube was murdered just before my arriving in Gambia 07' so the whole country was mourning his loss, and the radio was playing hour long sets of his music in Gambia.  And then in Senegal, they have their own style and music, and most of it is in Wolof, but you will still like it, out of like the several stations they have on the local television, most of them play music video's and Viviane Ndour was blowing up everywhere I went in Senegal in 07' but by 08' when I was there they had already moved on to other artists, but I still think she's the illest.

Here are some of Lucky Dube's best songs you should check out on youtube.

On Politics-  "House of Exile" or "Prisoner"

On Love-  "Lovers In A Dangerous Time"  or "I Got You Babe"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUVfEsllICw

On Family- "Remember Me" or "The One"

Here's 2 of Viviane N'Dour's best songs.

-"Cheri Boy"-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ71m3nCulk

-"Sama Dome"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj4iwMIwgEU

...see she can rap and sing, she's got style, intelligence, beauty, she's almost like an African version of Aliyah, in fact she covered Aliyah's "Are You That Somebody" song because she felt it reminded her of the Senegalese style.

this is one of my favourite releases of the year http://www.soundwayrecords.com/catalogue/the-world-ends.html

funky and psychy nigerian music. actually you cant really go wrong with any of the nigeria comps on soundway
