Tyler clearly only disses the old school era and says shit like this (going for God's Son over Illmatic for example) just because he knows it gets the old heads backs up and causes his name to be said more. Which to be honest, is quite a good idea to keep yourself in the news. He's been doing it in interviews for over a year now.

i was just about to say that.  "Street's Disciple" was ight (I'm not too versed on it tho) and "God's Son" was the cool, some of that album was real raw.

The other songs weren't bad either (except for the 1 with Alicia Keys).  Nas just showed his age on that album at a time when babyfaced niggaz were coming back on the come up.

2002 was a bad year for rap anyway (i almost wanna say music as a whole period).  ALOT'a things were way off and trashy.  There was good shit out there but it was limited.

Based on his twitter, seems that it's pretty genuine.  He seems to really not be a fan of 90s hip hop and older.

I don't see the problem of Tyler having another album than Illmatic as his favorite Nas album. God's Son is a really good album imo, I can bump it front to back.

Also, there's nothing wrong with not liking the "golden era" rap either? I acknowledge Gang Starr's, Rakim's etc etc contributions and status in the game, but I don't listen to those albums.

Why do you find this surprising? Think about his age and think about the music he grew up listening to.

I don't see the problem of it either. I really don't. And I think people should state their opinions. I just don't believe the guy. Everything he's ever said just seems to be one big act and entirely ungenuine. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm not.

I'm not condemning the guy though, don't take it me taking offence to his opinion. if you or anyone prefers one album over another than thats great. Its a matter of choice.
