Scared he would have ended up how rick ross did, losing deals.

Bingo!

http://newsone.com/2425770/emmet-till-lil-wayne-mountain-dew-deal/

I had to google cuz I hadn't heard about any if this. That lyric was fuckin tacky. And the lil bastard wasn't going to apologize till they went after his Mountain Dew money.

A publicist for Lil Wayne, Sarah Cunningham, said that the split was due to “creative differences” and that it was an amicable parting.  :D

Didn't Kanye have a line about Emmit Till on "Through The Wire"?
Yes, but Kanye didn't have any big-money endorsements at the time. All these watchdog groups go after major corporations and such. Pepsi could give two shits about the lyric but they have an image to protect. They hire athletes and entertainers to appeal to a giant portion of mainstream America so anything they do publicly to upset that demographic and the company will get scared.

Pepsi just saw an opportunity to save some money. To even get extra publicity while saving money...

Keep in mind, Kanye's line didn't disrespect him the way Wayne's line did, he was saying it felt similar to him, whereas Wayne was comparing fucking a bitch to his lynching.

That is a good point also but I think had it not been a major label artist with such heavy corporate ties, the line would not have drawn such media attention. It goes back to Ice-T recalling his meetings with Time Warner on the "Cop Killer" controversy where he argued with the label that it was their battle the same way it was his because they wouldn't be after him so heavy if he wasn't making money with a major label. There's far more backlash with songs, movies, and artists/entertainers who break the mainstream with offensive subject matter.
