Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (2021)

Documentary made by Questlove about the 1969 Harlem cultural festival also known as the black woodstock. The video footage had been in a basement for 50 years, they originally tried to shop it around to do a movie about it but noone was interested in 69. Performances by a young Stevie Wonder (didn't know he could also play drums), Gladys Knight & the Pips, Sly & The Family Stone, Nina Simone and many others. Was an interesting watch about the time and what was going down in 1969. I do wish they would've shown more complete performances instead of also letting people talk during them but I guess you can only do so much in 2 hours. Questlove's next project is going to be a documentary about Sly & The Family Stone I can't wait to see that.

Mid90s (2018)

I wasn't a skateboarder myself more into street soccer down here but I could definitely relate to this movie growing up in the 90s hanging with older kids getting into trouble. The scene where he fell off the roof was extremely relatable to me cause I once fell off a house trying to jump to the building next to it and had to walk home with support of my homies and my dad just losing his shit lol. I thought it was a very well done movie and it was dope that they had Tha Alkaholiks and E-40's cd's when they were showing the older brothers cd collection and a Mobb Deep poster on the wall. Gotta watch this if you grew up in the 90s.
