Doesn't matter about Glen Rice. Lakers still won 2 more titles without him, and Rick Fox was a better role player than Rice was. Foxy Baby played defense and hit shots when needed. Rice complained and even after winning the title, aired out that he felt out of place. The trade to get Rice was one of the worst trades in Laker history. I still wish we had Eddie Jones. Rice was the 2000 version of Dwight Howard, he just wasn't built for LA. He was main option player on a team where he was third option. He took points from Kobe and minutes from Rick Fox. Had the Lakers kept Jones, then you could have Jones on the 3 and had one of the best defensive wings in NBA history. Of course Jones best years were in Miami, so I guess it worked out okay for him too, since they won a title in 2005. Still, I don't put much into Rice.

Nah, more like that role player who wanted to use the Lakers to boost his Hollywood career. And he did just that. To bad he couldn't get Ray Allen to join the Lakers.

U STILL A KNICK FAN?

more espn propaganda

sometimes when talking sports with NIK i feel as if i'm debating with Skip Bayless about Tim Tebow

It's worse lol.

Lol @ saying on paper Melo and Kobe would work. The two biggest ball hogs in basketball "no doubt would work".

The best part is Nash can't play D, Kobe isn't an elite defender anymore, Melo doesn't play D, Pau is a pussy and Kaman is a mediocre defender. That team would get TORCHED by a fully loaded OKC team.

LOL THE NOTION OF KOBE BEING A BALL HOG IS RETARDED...HE LEADS THE LEAGUE IN ASSISTS FOR SHOOTING GUARDS, AND ONLY A DUMBASS CASUAL BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHT OBSERVER WHO DOESNT WATCH GAMES SUCH AS URSELF DOESN'T REALIZE HIS GREAT PASSING GAME.

KOBE + MELO >>>>> LEBRON + WADE ALL DAY.

Difference is, the Lakers have a ton of banners, a ton of retired jerseys and the stars in the stands. This is what players dream of, playing in front of stars, on a glamor team and under championship banners.

Name the huge free agents not named Shaq that have come to LA.  Ron Artest is about it.

NASH, JUST RECENTLY, WHO WAS COMIN OFF A GREAT SEASON...... GASOL AND ODOM WERE RETAINED WHEN THEY COULDA WENT ELSEWHERE. THEY WERE FIRST PRIORITY, SO WE DIDNT GO AFTER ANYONE ELSE SINCE '08. SAME WITH THE THREEPEAT YEAR, WE RETAINED THE SAME TEAM FOR YEARS WITH A BELIEF THAT WE COULD CONTEND WITH THAT CORE UNTIL WE WENT OUT AND GOT PAYTON + MALONE, WHO CAME HERE FOR ALMOST NOTHING. IF U THINK LA IS NOT AN ATTRACTIVE DESTINATION, SLAP YASELF RIGHT NOW.

of course they'll get SOMEONE

just not someone GOOD like Lebron or Carmelo.  no way would Lebron or Melo want to waste the primes of their careers with an old Kobe who still acts like he's the #1 option.  who would?

KOBE + MELO >>>>> LEBRON + WADE ALL DAY.

I've already explained this to you. Kobe touches the ball on 99% of the teams possessions. The shooting guard role, for the most part is strictly to "shoot" the ball. Get the role? The only shooting guard who HAD (doesnt currently) that type of possession control at that position was Wade. Outside of a few playmakers here and there, but who don't touch the ball in the same UNIVERSE as Kobe, everyone else catches and shoots. Also Kobe made it a point to pass more after statistics PROVED Kobe taking over 20 shots a game led to more Laker losses than wins. Finally, he had two of the best 7 footers in the league, who attempt the highest percentage shot in the league within five feet of the rim (before you inevitably, out of anger, bring up LeBron to compare him passing to players who take the lowest percent shot in the game of basketball, despite the fact Bron is completely irrelevant in this point). Kobe is a ballhog at the end of the day whose trying desperately hard to prove he was a passer all these years because the repeating, defending champion now gets absolute praise for his ball-vision and IQ as a passer.

You're in denial. He single handedly made the best center in the league run away for dear life lol.

Players coming into the league a few years ago wanted to be like Mike.  Didn't see shitloads of players going to Chicago.  Alot of players today idolized AI, where are all the 76ers free agents?

lol you're comparing chicago and philly with LA,

dont think of me being an LA boy thinking that LA is the best, because thats where im from.

it literally does have the best weather in the world, if not among the best. and when people think of the US they think of LA and NYC, nobody gives a shit about philly, nobody gives a shit about chicago, maybe

they're not destination cities, LA and NYC are THE major cities of the US, im not saying i wouldnt go to chicago, or philly i want to eat a chicago style deep dish pizza pie, an real philly cheese steak, because im AMERICAN, and i know of these

but all the business, nationwide and international is in LA and NYC,  you cant compare, like i've said before theres One Or 2 major cities in each country, LA and NYC is americas.

im an LA boy, and id live in NYC, but phily? jersey city (actually anywhere in jersey) , houston? hell no.

i need diversity, i need authentic ethnic foods of all sorts,  chicago might be an exception, but miami is no to, its a great vacation city, not a city id live in

its not hard to grasp this concept of why LA and NYC are easier to attract anyone more than philly or chicago

I keep hearing destination city, but Shaq was the only huge free agent you guys can hang your hat on.  The reason Payton and Malone came was due to Shaq and Kobe.  Talent will go where talent is.

Have fun with the rebuild.

Since 1996, the Lakers and Yankees have 1 thing in common, 5 world titles. Most in their sport. I'd say that's pretty damn successful. And the Lakers don't rebuild buddy.

Yup.  Certain players who came from teams outside of LA end up picking up property here too... you don't think they'd have liked to have just lived here the whole time and had a better commute?  I lived in Newport Beach for a number of years in my mid-20s, and I remember when Dennis Rodman used to live there... dude was notorious in his neighborhood for throwing crazy parties.  Not that I lived in the same part (he was probably in the fancier parts, like how Kobe is in Newport Coast, but I knew people who lived in the same gated community), but it's not hard to run into them.  I bartended for a year at a restaurant at the Irvine Spectrum in 2006, and Rodman came in.  I had a work meeting at the Cheesecake Factory at Fashion Island in Newport (in either 2010 or 2011), and sure enough, Kobe and his family ended up eating right behind us.  My girlfriend works retail at Fashion Island on the weekends, and she would see Kobe every now and then.

And like other people have mentioned, there are tons of celebrities around here.  Who wouldn't want to be around that?  Yes, everyone wants to win a trophy, but people also want to enjoy life a bit too.  The weather is solid... so many of my friends in college would surf and snowboard all in the same day.

I think it's pretty amusing that you guys keep talking about how players are so attracted to LA, but the Clippers have gone since Chris Paul without a star running to play there.
