What I miss about being 14 and listening to hip-hop...
« on: April 02, 2003, 05:21:34 AM »
Rap used to be honest to me.  I didn't know anything about the record business, or labels telling artists what kind of music and message to send.

When a rapper said he was a gangsta I took his word for it.

When a rapper said he was a pimp and didn't love those hoes I took his word for it.

When a rapper said he grew up in the dirtiest, poorest, hardest block I believed him.

When a rapper said his whole life has been messed up but now he's doing good and going platinum, I was with him.

Hip-hop was real to me then.  It was like everything was what it was and everyone meant what they said.

1996 will go down in history man.  There will never be a year like that one.

My year was 1993, when I was 14. All I remember was picking up so many styles of hip-hop; seems like everyone existed alongside one another peacefully in those ideas. Off the top of my head, that year gave me Doggystyle, Midnight Marauders, Enter the Wu and 19Naughty3 (please don't sleep on that last joint).

Back in the days, huh?  :'(

word

not just for hip hop but music in general you could turn on the radio or mtv and sit there for hours on end listening to music, 1996 was just a good year in general for me , 6th grade(my best school year) , won several basketball tourny's , the lakers got shaq and a lil guard named kobe. oh shit speaking of the lakers remember this line up Shaq, eddie jones, nick van axle, elden camble, ect. man that line up was the shit, man even r&b was great, toni braxton , en vouge, non mental mariah, man i just loved 1996

thats why i bought a 96' mustang to always remember the fun times
