Verse 1:

That lego set was all I could get
and even though i know I'm runnin a debt
could never let your eyes be wet
lost months will turn to years of regret
it's a headache that's overwhelming if
i let it swell up and leave me beneathe
I don't even speak on it much
I try not to think, of you like your me
Others say I should see, myself as a father,
labels are fables, I'd rather treat you
as me equal, as I would the best of friends
and not demand your devotion
the sand can not demand the ocean waves
they ebb and flow to their own ways
but always come back, that's what
I wish for us, after this poverty fades.

Chorus:

Used to reading Khalil Gibran/
to guide me upon/
what I should do to be
a father to you/
He taught me the ways
and let me paraphrase
as best I can/
Wise words that stand tall
"Your children are not
your children at all
—but the sons and daughters
of Life's longing for itself."
They are wealth and treasure
beyond measure,
for what price can be placed
upon the innocence of youth
seeing his first break of dawn
or giving a yawn in a peaceful night
or seeing stars, myths, legends,
men on the moon
Imagination of children consumed
with endless days and nights, timeless
We are reminded of what once was, us/
"They come through you,
but not from you, and though they are
with you they are not your property
—you may house
their bodies but not their souls

Chorus:

Verse 3:

—for their souls dwell in the house
of to-morrow, which you can not visit
not even in your dreams"
so it seems in fact,
that the wise man Gibran
touches upon the eternal fact
that a dad is an eternal instrument
in life's symphony,
bending back like a bow
as the child flies forth
but in that bending let their be gladness
For Allah loveth not to see your sadness
He loves you as he loves the arrow that flies
He loves a stable bow,
under which the seeds can grow
but no tree can grow
under the shadow of the Oak,
so now you must trust
and put him under the shadow
of Allah Almighty's Justice
for just this time
with an inner-knowing in heart
that he will be as fine
as the cornfields that reap
after they have been sowed
and the farm hand can recline
to taste the wine of his own life
While the life of a child shall always be
growing, running, wild and free
