Top 10 Eminem Songs Since 2004
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:45:26 AM »
I think we can safely say that 98-2003 is the prime of Eminem's career, and that 2004 pretty much marks the beginning of the second half of his career.  So with that said, I have been impressed with what Eminem has managed to do since Recovery, in reinventing himself and still staying on top of hip-hop, even though he is in his 40's.  That is an awesome achievement that has never been done before.  Though he is not perfect or nearly as great as he used to be, he has still released some gems.  Here's my top 10.

1.  "Guts Over Fear"
2.  "Beautiful Pain"
3.  "Stronger"
4.  "Legacy"
5.  "Where I'm At" with Loyd Banks
6.  "We As Americuns"
7.  "Fast Lane" with Royce
8.  "Living Proof" feat. Royce
9.  "Brainless"
10. "Groundhog Day"

Yeah I will never forget that song being on that little 6 track Encore leak that came out well ahead of the album.  After hearing that song I thought Eminem was going to do it yet again, keep pushing on to new levels.  I didn't see any signs in the leak of Em falling off... Other cuts were songs like "6 in the Morning" and  "Bully" which weren't spectacular but still nothing that would make you predict any disappointment.  It all seemed to be on par with what we had come to expect from Em.

I think the leaking of the album threw off Eminem's creative process, because it seems he went in and re-recorded.  I remember reading an interview saying that he was pissed about the leaking of the album and had to start over so he just went in the studio and popped a shitload of pills and recorded the Encore album (or something like that).  None of the leaked songs ended up on the album.  "We as Americuns" went to the bonus disc, "6 In The Morning" ended up on the D12 album, and stuff like "Bully" never came out.

What we were left with was the first failure of Eminem's career, the Encore album.  And not one track on the album was as good as "We Are Americuns".  I see "We As Americuns" and the Encore leak as the conclusion of Eminem's prime and the curtain call of the first half of his career.

Lmfaooooooooooooooo. "Stronger" on the list. Eminem himself would disown you as a fan if you told him that was a top 30 song of his in the last ten years.

Glad you mentioned "We As Americans" though. Go listen to that song again instead of just naming it and tell me with a straight face any of your other nine songs are in the same galaxy.
