In today's NBA having a superstar doesn't even mean that much.... look at how much the Knicks suck with Melo, or how Davis is having one of the best individual seasons of modern times and still his team will not make the playoffs. Even IF the Lakers could get Love or Marc Gasol, they'd still suck LOL.They alienated Pau Gasol and look how he blossoms in Chicago. He is BETTER than Derrick Rose! Lakers done fucked up big time and it will take decades to recover.

If I remember correctly, Magic going down was way worst than this. Like to the point were people questioned if the Lakers would ever be great again. But most of the focus was rightfully on Magic rather than the Lakers falling out of elite status. And since the Bulls rise, back then people started talking about the Lakers like an ancient franchise who's best days were behind it. But Dr. Buss made sure to get his team back, and when Shaq was signed the Lakers pushed hard on their tradition and they really wanted to remind people how great they were. But from 1992-1996 people were writing the Lakers off.
