yeah the beat is funky but there's a lot going on doesn't mesh with the vocals that well. the other remixes on this EP are great though and there's an instrumental for this one 8)

duo made of modern soul singer Mayer Hawthorne & westcoast producer Jake One.

started collaborating some time back circa 2011 (not sure, Matty will drop the knowledge), dropped a 3 song EP in 2013 and dropped their debut album in Spring 15. I was a bit disappointed in the album at first but it's definitely a grower and it's very solid. You must be aware though that it doesn't sound G-Funk or Hip Hop, it's definitely modern funk / 80's funk / electro inspired. sounds like Breakbot a little bit.

Here's what I consider their best songs :

I feel you, Mayer's voice is not for every body and I'm not fond of the melodies sometimes, he tends to reach for the high notes a little too much. that's mainly why I was disappointed upon first listen. I'm a huge bridge guy, it can make or break a song for me and some of the bridges in the song sounded unnatural and forced at first but I got used to it and I enjoy most of them now. but overall it does sound nice.
