Twista: Faster Than Ever
Thursday - May 08, 2003
K.B. Tindal
Over ten years ago an Emcee hailing from Chicago stepped on the scene and spit bars so fast that hardly anyone new what he was saying. He was heralded as the fastest rapper alive and awarded the honor by the Guinness Book of World Records. Twista had finally received some world wide notoriety. In 1997 he released the critically acclaimed LP Adrenaline Rush and became widely recognized as a force to be reckoned with within the Hip Hop Genre.

Twista has spit some of the hottest heat with some of today’s finest lyricists and producers including P Diddy, Ludacris, Timbaland, Jay-Z, Three 6 Mafia and Lil’ Kim. When the pressure is on and you put Twista in the kitchen to cook up a hit with some speed to it he never fails.

After a massive amount of business complications with industry types, label reps, and times where he even doubted himself, Twista has emerged with the same hunger for the rap game that he initially had at his start.

Today Twista is set to release his latest work by the name of Kamikaze. As for the title Twista says, “I had to come up with a good follow up to Adrenaline Rush and the title fit the best. It’s like being on a motorcycle in the hood at 50 Miles per hour. It’s just me going all out.” On this LP Twista has used the talents of producers such As Kanye West and his long time co-hort Toxic.

Twista says that he’s a rapper who is fueled by lyrical energy and nothing less. “I’m all about the lyrics man. I like artists like Kool G Rap, Eminem, Nas, Jay, Pharoe Monch, Rakim, Jadakiss and even J Hood, These niggas figured out how to come with the street shit lyrically. As long as they comin’ with then lyrics man that’s what it’s all about.”

Now many of you may have heard that Twista was going to be reborn as the newest member of Jay-Z’s dynasty, The Roc, and after his appearance on The Jay-Z Showtime special many would have thought that the ink on the contract was dry. As Twista puts it, “Man I’m happy with my current situation and this album is coming out and that’s it, but if something else happens in the future I’m cool with that too. Man I thank Jay for letting me be a part of the situation on Showtime. That was a history making event. That was love and after that I knew it was time to get my album out there. It was an experience and I thank him for that. Either way my future situation goes man there’s always ups and downs on independent labels and major labels. There are ups and downs on both sides”

Indeed there are ups and downs on both sides of the entertainment field so how does Twista plan to make his current situation work for him. “On this album I got some extra help and extra production. I feel that I missed visually on the other album but with this one I wanna be in a different town everyday man. I’m trying to do shows, features, whatever it takes. I feel the creator blessed me with perfect timing and as long as there is work involved I wanna do the shit. And work is what Twista is doing on this album he has an array of songs that represent his native of Chicago with the love that he has for his hometown. “Kill Us All” is reminiscent of Adrenalines title track. “Feels So Good” with Jazze Pha on the chorus is sure to raise some eyebrows also. And the ode to liquor, with the cut, “Drinks” produced by Toxic, is sure to get you to the bar.

So at the end of the day what is Twista to be remembered by? Twista says, "I just want people to know that I know who I am and I know who the creator is and I’m good. My spirit is like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime right now. I want people to know that I was good peoples who did his thing to the fullest and I stayed humble.”

Only time will tell if the fastest rapper alive is going to really be recognized as a driving force in the future of Hip Hop. One thing is certain though, with a focused attitude and a belief in a power greater than him, no matter what the outcome, Twista can’t go wrong

there is hope

"Don't give up. Don't ever give up. "
